Proofpoint's email archiving solution has historically been considered the best in the market, but there are still some areas of the solution where we can compete and win.

Their licensing model offers both an enterprise and essentials offering, the enterprise version is very expensive and the essentials version very significantly disables functionality in the solution, such that it often doesn't meet core functionality requirements. For example, with essentials emails are only retained for one year.

Furthermore, the Proofpoint solution uses a 'double blind' encryption process, meaning exporting data from Proofpoint solution to move to a competitor is extremely expensive and potentially very time consuming.
