Getting archive data from a 3rd party archive
Overview
Exporting from a 3rd party archive is the responsibility of the customer, however we can often offer tools and professional services to assist them. Which options are available will depend upon the exact solution they are migrating from. Speak to a product specialist for assistance.
Data can generally be exported from an existing archive using at least one of these methods:
Manual
No monetary cost
Time consuming
Highest risk of error/omission
Incumbent Provider Service
Often the quickest & most reliable option
Usually extremely expensive
3rd Party Automation
Low cost, low effort
May require development time
Custom Import Service
Solar Archive administrators can raise requests with support to import data from files using the custom import service. This can be done via the admin portal or directly with support.
In most cases, support will prepare an Amazon Web Services S3 bucket and share instructions and credentials with the customer/partner for them to upload their exported archive data.
.pst and .eml files can be imported easily and are out preferred formats.
Importing is often free, but charges may apply if data volumes are high (generating meaningful costs in storage and transfer) or substantial processing of the raw data is required. This might apply if data is provided compressed/zipped, encrypted or in formats that must be converted before importing. Speak to a product specialist for assistance with quoting.
Migrating from Google Vault
Live Google Workspace mailboxes can be imported using mailbox reader.
Google Vault can be manually exported to .pst or .mbox.
.mbox files require processing to convert into .eml files. Support can do this, but it may be chargeable depending on the data volume.
Migrating from Proofpoint
At present, we do not have access to any method to bulk export from Proofpoint archive. Proofpoint heavily restricts exports and encrypts all data. Customer can manually export small volumes of email, but this is likely to be extremely time consuming unless the archive is small. Proofpoint offers a service to export the archive in usable formats, but often charges significant fees for this service.
